Dueodde – Bornholm’s magical sand dunes and unique coastal environment

On the southern tip of Bornholm, the vast sand dunes of Dueodde spread out like a soft, white sea of sand. It is one of Europe’s most unique coastal environments where the forces of nature have shaped a landscape reminiscent of a desert landscape – yet surrounded by the blue waters of the Baltic Sea.

The sand dunes are high and undulating, covered in hardy beach grasses that fight against the constant forces of the wind. Here, a living and changing landscape is created where the sand slowly moves and forms new formations. It is a peaceful place where you can walk in silence and feel how the wind plays with the sand.

The unique environment also has an important ecological function – the sand dunes are home to special plants and animal species that are adapted to this tough but fascinating environment. The area is protected as a nature reserve and offers nice paths that wind through dunes and pine forests, which provides a variation between open landscapes and green shadows.

On a small headland stands Dueodde lighthouse, a white lighthouse built in 1962. At 47 meters, it is the tallest lighthouse in the Nordic countries and a well-known landmark on Bornholm.

Dueodde is therefore much more than just a beach – it is a place where the power and beauty of nature interact in a unique environment that provides peace and inspiration to all who seek the outdoors.
