Fettjeåfallet – rapids and mountain feeling

Fettjeåfallet in Jämtland is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the southern mountains – and in the autumn the hike there is something truly special. The approximately 4 km long tour (round trip) begins in forest terrain, where the path winds along the Fettjeån through golden birches and moss-covered rocks.

Along the way you pass several beautiful passages and bridges, and the last stretch up to the waterfall is via well-built stone steps that make both the ascent and the return easier and safer – although it can be slippery in rain or frost. The steps were built by skilled Nepalese stone workers to protect nature and make the trail more accessible.

After about 45 minutes you reach the mighty waterfall that thunders down from a height of 60 meters in several stages. During the fall, the water flow is often strong, and the surrounding colors glow in red, yellow and orange – a dream backdrop for photographers and nature lovers alike. At the foot of the falls, there are rocks to sit on and enjoy both the sound and the view.

Tip: Go early in the day if you want the place to yourself. Bring a coffee, a camera and preferably raincoat – the water splashes a lot!

Fettjeåfallet is an autumn hike that really stays in your memory – dramatic nature, easily accessible and fabulously beautiful.
